What is a game jam?

It’s a social coding event where you make a video game with friends + free food!

Don’t game jams sound awesome?

This November, YOU can join the world's largest teen game jam. Yes, you! It doesn’t matter if you have years of experience, or just learned what they are today.

You’ll join thousands of teens making games from all around the world. Don't consider yourself a game dev? No problem - we have tons of workshops for you to make your game!

This is your chance to learn something new, meet new friends, andgo on an incredible adventure together!

Here is how you can join a game jam this November!

What happens on the day?

Saturday, November 14

  1. 9:00 am registration
  2. 10:00 am opening ceremony
  3. 11:30 am Godot workshop
  4. 12:30 pm Ren'Py workshop
  5. 1:30 pm lunch
  6. 2:30 pm work time
  7. 6:00 pm end of day 1

Sunday, November 15

  1. 9:00 am registration + breakfast
  2. 10:00 am work time
  3. 12:30 pm lunch
  4. 1:30 pm game submissions open
  5. 3:00 pm game submissions close
  6. 3:30 pm voting + arcade
  7. 5:00 pm closing ceremony
  8. 6:00 pm end of day 2

FAQ

  • Am I eligible?

    If you're age 13-18, you're eligible! No prior experience required.

  • Where is it?

    La Trobe University Sydney Campus. Full venue and check-in details will be shared closer to the event.

  • But I've never coded before!

    Perfect! Game jams are designed for beginners. There are Godot and Ren'Py workshops on Saturday, plus mentors and teammates to help you every step of the way.

  • I still have questions!

    Join #haven-help on Slack or reach out to us at sydney@haven.hackclub.com!

  • When is it?

    Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. It's not overnight, so you head home on Saturday evening.

  • Is this free?

    Yes! Entry, food and drinks are free. Hack Club is a nonprofit helping teens build technical projects at no cost.

  • What if my parents are concerned?

    We're here to help! They can reach out to us at sydney@haven.hackclub.com with any questions.

  • Can I join the organising team?

    Of course! Reach out to us on Slack or at sydney@haven.hackclub.com and we'll get you involved.
